Have you discovered Canva? Amazingly easy online software for creating cool graphics perfect for content marketing and social media. Design for non-designers. Upload your own images or buy one for just a buck. You can even create infographics.
And now it’s coming out with an enhanced business version. This means much better organizing!
Oh, the pressure as a graphic designer to design and develop her own site — and then to launch her precious into to the big, scary world. Designers are legendary for holding onto things till they're perfect. But as they say, when you love something, set it free. Well, here it is folks. Finally. I hope you like it!
I created this completely custom site in Webflow. No template. Webflow is the only option to build custom responsive sites with clean HTML/CSS without having to actually write code. It’s W3C-compliant HTML5/CSS3 code that can be hosted anywhere.
So what am I going to do with all my free time now that I’m done my site? I’m starting a large contract next week, but I’ll still be taking on smaller projects. I’ll also be adding more content to my site, such as new work and blog posts.
Please let me know what you think of the site — and don't forget to submit your email address. You’ll get occasional updates when new work is added. You’ll also get some good tips on making the most of your visual content and branding. Print, digital and social.
Make your visuals work harder, not you.
Finally, a coming-soon page! I've really been enjoying life as a freelance designer — and not just the lack of commute. I think my head may explode with knowledge as I've learned about running a design biz. So fun!
I also enrolled in a 3-month web designer blueprint through Skillcrush, learning HTML, CSS, JavaScript and JQuery. It's quite a lot to learn, but I'm really enjoying doing more web design. And the Skillcrush community is amazing. Skillcrush is geared to getting women into tech and they do a great job of supporting and encouraging those who want to venture into the growing tech job market. Ya, the one that's growing massively. If you want to work remotely, this is the job for you.
Coding is like solving puzzles. Trying to find ways to make things look better and work better. Much like graphic design — except for the gobs and gobs of code. The time-consuming, endless research, trial and error coding. Lots and lots of research. Lots and lots of trial and error. Fun, till I realized how long it would be before I'd actually be able to code the level of design I wanted for my future web design clients. Grrrr. Okay, so maybe I'm never going to be a web developer. I'm now of the belief that most people are meant for one or the other — either you have mad design skills or you have mad coding skills.
Great question! As a print designer, dabbling in web design is like jumping on a speeding train. A crazy train. There are sooooo many options out there to create websites, and more coming out all the time. So what did I decide on for my own portfolio website? I can't wait to share it and get your feedback. Sign up for an email notification of my launch.
Not the same old bs, baby! And while you're waiting, check out my latest project...me.
